La Grundgestalt est un des fondements de la théorie de Schœnberg. Pour autant, il ne donne pas de véritable définition de ce concept dans ses écrits. L’objet de cet article est de situer historiquement la Grundgestalt, d’en clarifier la définition et de mettre en évidence son intégration à deux autres concepts schœnbergiens, l’idée musicale et la variation développante. Cette étude permet de mieux cerner les processus de la création musicale chez Schœnberg.
Résumé anglais: 
The Grundgestalt is one of the foundations Schœnberg’s theory. However, he does not give a genuine definition of this concept in his writings. The purpose of this article is to inscribe the Grundgestalt in a historical perspective, to clarify its definition and to consider its interaction with two other schœnbergian concepts, the musical idea and the developing variation. This study allows a better understanding of Schœnberg’s creative process in music.
