L’ouvrage publié par Jean-François Boëly en 1806, suite à l’adoption du Traité d’harmonie de Catel par le Conservatoire de Paris, a retenu l’attention surtout par son ton polémique. Pourtant, les points de théorie malheureusement à peine esquissés par Boëly ne manquent pas d’intérêt. En particulier, Boëly lie très fortement la fonction des accords à leur forme : accord parfait pour la tonique, « accord sensible » (c’est-à-dire de septième de dominante) pour la dominante-tonique, de « sixte dissonante » pour la sous-dominante et de « simple septième » pour le deuxième degré. On aimerait en savoir plus sur ce théoricien.

The work published by Jean-François Boëly in 1806, following the adoption of Catel’s Traité d’harmonie by the Paris Conservatoire, retained the attention mainly because of its polemic tone. However, some of the points of theory that Boëly merely sketches, unfortunately, are not devoid of interest. In particular, Boëly strongly links the function of chords to their form : perfect chord for the tonic, “accord sensible” (i. e. dominant seventh) for the “dominante-tonique”, “dissonant sixth” for the subdominant and “simple seventh” for the second degree. One would wish to know more about the theorist.
