L’analyse de l’orchestration des concertos pour piano de Beethoven fait apparaître une évolution extrêmement rapide. Elle est abordée ici sous un angle négligé par les ouvrages usuels, le rôle soliste que prennent les instruments de l’orchestre dans les concertos pour piano. Chacun des cinq concertos est passé en revue. On y constate le rôle soliste croissant de la clarinette, du basson et du duo clarinette-basson, puis des cordes solistes, enfin du cor et des timbales dans le Cinquième concerto. L’orchestration devient déterminante pour la forme des œuvres. Les innovations de Beethoven annoncent plusieurs développements ultérieurs du xixe siècle.
Résumé anglais:
The analysis of the orchestration of Beethoven’s piano concertos enlightens an extremely fast evolution. It is envisaged here from a point of view often neglected in the scholarly literature, the soloing role of the orchestra instruments in the piano concertos. Each of the five concertos is examined in turn. One ascertains the increasing soloing role of the clarinet, of the bassoon, and of their duo, then of the solo strings, and in the Fifth concerto of the horn and timpani. The orchestration becomes a determining factor for the form of the works. Beethoven’s innovations foreshadow several further developments of the 19th century.
