Cet article propose la lecture de l’une des partitions d’orchestre les plus importantes du début du xxe siècle à l’aune de la notion de mouvement. Il s’agit de montrer comment Debussy parvient à tisser une temporalité qui épouse étroitement l’argument du ballet, par-delà le « rayonnement de l’instant » caractérisant son style musical. L’analyse des matériaux conduira à interroger le fonctionnement d’une forme dont la complexité n’a d’égale que les multiples angles d’approche qu’elle autorise. Enfin, nous interrogerons Jeux au prisme d’une esthétique de la fragmentation et d’une crise du sens dont le Symbolisme se fait l’écho dès la fin du xixe siècle.
Résumé anglais:
This article proposes a reading of one of the most important orchestral scores of the early 20th century in terms of the concept of movement. It aims to show how Debussy manages to weave a temporality that closely follows the argument of the ballet, beyond the “radiance of the moment” characterising his musical style. The analysis of materials will lead to question the operation of a form whose complexity is only equalled by the multiple approaches it allows. Lastly, we will examine Jeux from a double viewpoint: the aesthetic of fragmentation and the crisis of meaning conveyed by Symbolism as early as in the nineteenth century onwards.
